Greenwich "Contractor" Arrested during Sloppy Home Renovation

Arrest information is supplied by the Greenwich Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Paul Hergen, 38, of 31 Putnam Green, was arrested by warrant at 12 a.m. April 1 and charged with non-compliance in workers compensation, a felony offense, as well as being an unregistered home improvement contractor and failure to have a tax ID/stamp.
He took on a home renovation project in Greenwich and left the job unfinished and dangerous after the homeowners became suspicious that Hergen (pictured) wasn’t legitimate, police said.
“The homeowners hired several legitimate contractors to consult on the project and found numerous code violations and deviations from standard building procedures,” police said in a press release.
In leaving the job undone, he also left unsafe structural and electrical conditions.
“The homeowners were forced to hire a new contractor at a significant additional cost, to not only fix the problems, but to complete the original project as well,” police said. “Investigation confirmed the homeowners’ suspicions regarding Hergen’s not being a licensed home improvement contractor.”
